New Job update 3

I have been so busy the last month, I have had no time for blogging. I just got my lawn mower put away and the snow blower out. It's been a very busy couple of months to say the least. But it's over now...why? Well, I decided after a month + of working at the Jail that the job of a corrections officer is not my cup of tea.

Do I feel like a quitter? A little bit. I really wanted to make it work, I was very excited about it at first. But it didn't take more than a month for me to see the job for what it was....hard and stressful. Maybe I should have done more homework. Indeed as a Criminal Justice Major, I did have some idea what I was getting into, but you really have to experience something to understand it.

I think I am drawn to work in which I have a lot of freedom, not a lot of direct supervision. The jail is exactly the opposite of that. When that heavy metal door slams behind you, you are locked in that jail just like the inmates. Sure, you can leave at the end of the day, but while you are there, in some respects YOU ARE THERE. And the 12 hour days, which I expected to enjoy, cause you work fewer days, just longer ones, I did not enjoy. 12 hours was too long to be in that environment.

Even some of the Sheriff road officers who have worked both the road and the jail, say they could never ever go back to the jail, it was plain too stressful.

Am I making excuses? Maybe, but I don't consider myself a quitter in this case. I tried it, I did not enjoy it, and it was part time. Life goes on, I still have a good job that pays the bills and grants me the ability to spend a lot of time with my kids. Could be a lot worse.

You would have always wondered if you didn't try. Don't be too hard on yourself!

I'm with momrn2. You gave it a good shot, and it didn't work out. But at least you gave it a good shot!

I don't blame you a bit with how crazy your schedule has been! Maybe God just used the jail experience to confirm that you already are where He wants you. Now you can say you've been there, done that, and don't have to wonder anymore!

I just have to say that my dear husband's blog would be very boring if he listened to his wife's advice. I know he would agree. Todd, you keep our life interesting!
Love ya! Julie
