My new hobby.

Wow, I have been away again for awhile. I just find that unless I really have something interesting that I want to share, I don't add new posts. Anyway, life has been pretty routine for awhile. Nothing really new to report to millions and millions of readers. My son Josh is done with school for the year, he is now a first grader, and I am having a hard time believing it....time sure flies by doesn't it?

Summer is here, my favorite time of the year. I love the hot days and warm nights. I really wish winter did not have to rear it's ugly head in a few short months again. Summer is a gift from God and I surely am thankful for it.

That being said, summer is also a time in which we all bear a little more skin, shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, swim trunks. I can look back to a year ago and see that I have slowly allowed some weight to creep back onto my once lean and mean 5 foot 8 inch frame. It's soooo hard to keep the pounds off when you get older.

I have taken up a new hobby to try and at least remain steady as far as my weight goes. I am now officially an amature cyclist. Yes, I am...I have the spandex shorts, bike jersey, sunglasses, helmet and clip-in shoes. I will not post a picture my said self in the spandex just yet..it's kind of funny.

I bought a used Schwinn LeTour that was older than me last year, but it was just too heavy for serious riding. I have been considering having to shell out some real money for a real bike this year, but instead I found a used Trek 760 for a fraction of the cost of a new Trek 1000. It's old, but not as old as the schwinn. And it's half again as light. I have made some modifications, adding a pair or aerobars, frame bag, rear view mirror, new tires, etc.

I have been very happy thus far with the bike, it was state of the art back in 1985 and cost probably close to 1000 bucks. It rides very smooth and I don't have a back ache at all like I had on the Schwinn. I have even decided to enter a bike race called the Holland Hundred. I will probably not be riding the entire distance. The most I have riden so far in one outing is 20 miles, but I am getting better.
Here are some pictures I have taken of the object of my most recent obsession.
